This offers amazing Sardinian wines with loads of personality from around Oristano on the West coast of the island. The Vernaccia Karmis shares only a name with the Tuscan Vernaccia, being both full and textured through the palate with a long finish. The DOC of Tirso for this Vernaccia is a new one and Contini is the leading exponent. The Vermentino is a perfect island example, being both fresh and characterful. Nieddera Rosso is made from the ancient grape of the same name and is aged in a mixture of barrels, including 25hls chestnut and 225 litre new French oak. The result is a wine that is spicy and full with a pronounced Mediterranean character. The Vernaccia di Oristano is made in the very traditional style from the island: developing a yeast flor in the early stages of development, it is then aged for up to 10 years in barrel before release. With almonds and toasted hazelnuts on the nose, leading to a full and intense palate, this is truly a unique vinous experience.
