Serena Palazzolo’s cellar is only just big enough to make and age the wine they produce. With the help of Roberto Cipresso, the wine making is seamless and elegant. Barriques are stored at several levels within the winery to maximize the use of space, and somehow everything seems to fit without being cramped. Out in the Colli Orientali you expect wines with some depth of character, and Gnemiz is no exception. The wines are complex and long lived; displaying true varietal and regional style, and are a testament to Serena’s commitment and passion. The Rosso, a blend of Cabernet, Merlot and Schioppettino, is one of the best reds in the region. Its complex palate of wood smoke, leather and ripe berry fruit is woven together with effortlessly big, but not austere, mellow tannins.
