SOLARIA, AZIENDA AGRICOLA CENCIONI PATRIZIA, MONTALCINO Toscana
In 1989 the property previously known as Cencioni Pallari was transformed into Solaria by the owner, Patrizia Cencioni, and the first vineyard was planted as a result of her considerable financial investment. The vineyard is situated on the south–east slope of the Montalcino hill at about 300 metres altitude where the vines benefit from exceptionally long hours of sunshine, excellent drainage and shelter from the colder eastern winds from Mount Amiata. Of a total area of 50 hectares, 8 are under Brunello vines and there are 7 hectares of olive groves. The winery itself is as expected, modern and high-tech but what really impresses is the more than usual attention to detail which is also apparent in the finished product. Solaria’s philosophy is to retain the character of the terroir as well as the vine’s fruit. Yields are low and the resulting wine spends just three months ageing in new barrels before it is gently transferred into large oak foudres for maturation.
